Kids Ages 6-16
The Kol Ami Drama Club welcomes children ages 6-16. Each year we puts on a fully staged musical production with a “Jewish twist”. Some of our recent past performances have been “The Rabbis of Oz”, “You’re a Real Mensch, Charlie Brown”, “Sabbath Night Live” and “Matzo Balls and Martians.” Our Drama Club is directed by Ellen Flaks who brings 25-years experience in theater and education. She is helped behind the scenes by our drama club participant’s parents (we call them the Drama Mamas and Drama Papas). Our Drama Mamas and Drama Papas have as much fun as the kids by helping with everything from set construction, Playbill design, stage management, lights and sound to financial management and fund-raising. The Drama Club meets on Sundays immediately following Religious School. The cost is $175 per child for the entire season.
High Schoolers and Adults
The Kol Ami Adult Drama Club puts on an annual Purim Spiel, a musical parody of the story of Esther. High School students and adults are encouraged to audition. We rehearse once a week starting in early December, with additional time usually put in a few days before the performance during the Purim service in February or March. The hilarious musical parodies we have used in the past include the “Megillah According to the Beatles”, “Megilliah-Mia”, “GREASE – The Megillah” and “The Megillah According to Walt Disney.” We always have a lot of fun dancing, singing and laughing as we prepare for the joyful Purim festival.
Audition schedules and rehearsal times are emailed to the congregation in early Fall.
