Susan Arovas – Senior Rabbi Search Committee Chair

Susan Kohn Arovas has been a proud member of Congregation Kol Ami since she and her family moved to Westchester County 14 years ago. She and her husband, Greg Arovas, have three teenaged children — Alex, Gabriella and Talia — who all have been educated at Kol Ami’s Religious School. Talia was named in our Chapel, and she and Gabriella each spent three magical years as students in Kol Ami’s Early Childhood Program.
Susan is an Immediate Past Co-President of the Congregation, having served as Co-President alongside Scott Musoff from July 2017 through June 2021. In that time she and Scott, among other things, managed the Congregation’s early response to the COVID pandemic, reviewed security measures in light of the aftermath of the Tree of Life massacre, finalized Rabbinic contracts, and ensured cantorial continuity by hiring Danny Mendelson as Interim Cantor upon the departure of Cantor Rosen in 2020. From 2016-2107, Susan served as a Vice President of the Congregation, acting as executive board liaison to both the Religious School and the ECP. She served as a member of Board of Trustees beginning in 2014.
Susan most recently co-chaired the ECP Director Search Committee that led to the hire of Merav Veetal in August 2020. She served on the Cantorial Search Committee that led to the hire of Cantor David Rosen in 2015 and the Religious School Director Search Committee that led to the promotion of Pam Pass to that position in 2019. Susan has had the pleasure of teaching both in the Religious School and the ECP, where she helped establish its garden education program.
Susan is grateful for the opportunity to assist the Congregation as we enter an exciting new chapter in our almost 100-year history and looks forward to partnering with Scott again to lead the Senior Rabbi Search Committee in its important work.
