Our Program

Our Program Not Your Parents’ Religious School!

At Kol Ami Religious School, we are dedicated to creating an engaging atmosphere where we reinforce positive associations with Judaism. Lively learning through music, art, projects, challenges, meaningful conversations, dance/movement, and on-site activities fill our classes. We create the opportunities for friendships to flourish. Weekly Tefillah (prayer services) are led by our Clergy, who enjoy connecting with your children.

Each grade, in age-appropriate ways, engages in an encounter with prayer, Jewish belief and spirituality, Hebrew, the stories of the Torah, and the celebration of Jewish life through holidays, rituals, and blessings.

In addition, each grade explores a specific topic of Jewish life in-depth. Special programs/activities, trips, games, experiences in the Jewish arts, and family learning accompany each grade’s program.  Every grade has a family Shabbat program where our students participate in our service and families join together for a Shabbat meal. There are many opportunities for families to engage together as a larger community, for parents to learn alongside their children, and to celebrate and worship together.

Pre-K (First Taste)

Monthly on Sundays 9am-11am

New this year, First Taste is a monthly warm and welcoming program for our PreK students (ages 4-5). Each month the students enjoy one of our Kashkesh specialists, hear a story, do an art project, learn about a holiday, and attend our lively Tefillah.

Grades K-3

Sundays 9am-11am

Students in grades K-2 are introduced to Hebrew through Kashkesh, our Hebrew program taught through Art, Dance/Movement and Music. In grade 3 more formal learning begins as part of our Sunday mornings. After a few months of introduction, the students are divided into smaller, leveled groups that are more conducive to language learning.

On Sunday mornings during Religious School, all students in grades PreK-6 attend age-appropriate services led by our Kol Ami clergy. Tefillah includes singing prayers, typically accompanied by guitar, and connecting to the weekly Torah portion.

Grades 7-12

Wednesdays, 6-8:30pm (communal dinner 6-6:30pm)
Grade 7 meets an additional day per week for electives

Classes are led by clergy and senior staff. Each grade meets as one cohesive group, where teens share their thoughts on Jewish topics close to their hearts. The tenor of Jewish learning shifts and students explore their feelings, personal connections, and place in the world as Jews. This includes sharing experiences and family connections to the Holocaust, Social Justice, Israel, and Anti-Semitism.

Seventh graders have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of electives and dates that fit their schedule such as  Shabbat-at-Home, Helping the Hungry, Jewish Values in Movies and more.

Students becoming a B’nai Mitzvah are provided with private tutoring as well as regular meetings with Rabbi Tom Weiner and Cantor Danny Mendelson

Students have opportunities to travel together to Israel and on service trips to Costa Rica/Puerto Rico. During the Confirmation year (Grade 10), students go on a weekend retreat and lead a service for our Community.
